Position Summary: SRA’s Advanced Materials Lab (AML) in Burlington, MA is seeking an expert in mechanical modeling. The ideal candidate will have expertise in developing 2-D and 3-D models including phenomena such as solid-solid contact, elastic deformation, plastic deformation, moving boundaries, second-phase nucleation, and/or diffusion-induced stress, and applying such models to develop improved designs for composite materials. Experience applying such models in areas such as nanocomposite materials design and electrochemical systems such as batteries or fuel cells is a major plus. The Advanced Materials Lab in Burlington, MA is part of Samsung Research America headquartered in Mountain View, CA. AML is engaged in materials design and discovery for a broad range of next generation technologies such as batteries, quantum dots, and organic LED materials. The work is conducted internally, with academic collaborators, and with industrial partners. As a part of Samsung’s advanced research effort, AML works closely with counterparts at Samsung laboratories in Korea. We are looking for strong candidates with demonstrated excellence their fields. Necessary Skills: A strong background in developing new mechanical models including elastic-plastic deformation, contact, and diffusion-induced stress. Of particular interest are candidates with experience with nanocomposite materials design and electrochemistry. Self-motivated with the ability to communicate clearly. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Analyze current status of research in advanced materials to identify influential factors Develop models and perform computations, advancing the state of the art in field of expertise. Contribute to the Samsung mission for next-generation materials development. Collaborate closely with colleagues at AML and in Korea, and with university partners. Education/Experience Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field such as Materials Science or Chemical Engineering.
